Behind the Book’s annual 5k will take place on Sunday, May 31st - from the comfort of your own home!
Behind the Book provides literacy programs to underserved public school students in NYC public schools. Our programs serve as a catalyst for many students, creating engaged readers - something that is so important right now.
And that’s where the #btbvirtual5k comes in. It’s an opportunity to do some physical activity - something we all need right now - and to provide support to students who need it the most.
We are making this year’s run even bigger and more creative! Teams can participate in all kinds of ways:
Walking/running in your apartment or on your balcony
Walking/running in your local park (stay 6 feet away from other runners!)
Bicycling (Outside or on a stationary bike)
Rowing
Swimming
Jump Rope, Dance party, or any other kind of physical activity for 30-45 minutes - the equivalent of a 5k!
When you join the #btbvirtual5k you’ll get a customized t-shirt, and a medal - all mailed directly to you! In addition, this year, Behind the Book will be recognizing winners in all kinds of ways:
Best costume
Most creative run
Everyone is encouraged to post about their run with pictures on social media. Please tag @behindthebook on Facebook or Instagram, and feel free to use this hashtag: #btbvirtual5K - and stay tuned with more updates from us!
